âThree of them?â Amara replied in shocked disbelief. âHow have you met three when we ourselves only know of two?â
âAnd we can be quite sure that he has not made contact with either,â Sir Stannard added.
âHow can you be so sure?â I questioned.
Amara sighed. âBecause of the nature of who they are. Allow me to explain.â
âThe Azraels we know of are Azrael Number One, nicknamed âThe Fallen Reaperâ and an Azrael we donât know the number for, nicknamed âThe Doll Maker.â If you had met the Reaper, you wouldâve known because he wouldâve forced you cold immediately. Heâs known as the strongest Azrael and does not spare mercy to anyone whoâd dare follow me. The Doll Maker, however, secludes herself away in a forest, making, as her nickname implies, dolls. We only know of her through stories and rumors, so itâs hard to even say she really exists. Nobody who enters the forest she lives in ever leaves, and, if they do, they donât remember anything about what it was like while they were there.â
Dolls creeped me out, so the thought that there was an Azrael that specifically made them made me uneasy, somehow even more so than the âstrongest Azraelâ that clearly wanted me cold. However, a thought did occur to me.
âIs there any intel on an Azrael made of metal?â I asked.
âMade of metalâ¦,â Sir Stannard muttered aloud. âIt couldnât be! The Royal Guard?!â
Amara nodded. âIâd have to agree.â
âWhen did you meet a man made of metal?â Lina queried.
âAt the bar we went to. There was a man no less than ten feet tall. He introduced himself as âChrisâ but left without saying too much. We thought it was weird, but I never thought to bring it up,â I explained before turning my attention back to Amara. âMistress, do you know him?â
âNot personally,â Amara admitted before explaining her theory. âHis story is far from lavish, but Iâll share it.â
âLong ago, a Royal Guard was charged with defending a Frost Queen. He did so valiantly and, as a reward, was given a Flakette. These are small beings of living Ice and are the highest honor that can be given by a Frost Queen. He cherished it. However, he had to travel a lot. His next duty location was in an area not fit for a Flakette. He wished to bring it anyway, and so, despite the warnings of his peers, took it with him, and it melted. Due to having caused a Flakette a completely avoidable end, he was punished by eternal Ice. This punishment entails a Frost Queen lowering a beingâs temperature to absolute zero. The Royal Guard, a being that typically stands fifty feet tall and is made of hollow, thick metal, began to collapse as the metal he was made out of constricted and condensed until he was a solid, humanoid chunk of metal. Everyone assumed he had gone cold. However, rumor had it that his soul still existed within his immovable body because the only
